Homemade Fondant
After spending the day with my Grandson on his first birthday, I came home to start the prep wok for his smash cake for his party on Saturday. Homemade Fondant, it's not for the whole cake, just the decorations, but it tastes so much better than the mass produced stuff you normally get on cakes. #JustLikeHatties

National Custard Day
In honor of National Custard Day, I give you the Charlette Russe. This was a special dessert that My Great-Grandma Hattie would make, and I took over making on Easter for the white family. This is a cooked custard dessert with a fluffy layer that is formed by shipped egg whites. After it is set it is covered in whipped cream, and surrounded by lady fingers that are dipped in powdered sugar. The simple version is potted with an orange slice ring, the one you see here also has

Happy Heavenly Birthday Mom
Today would have been my Mother's 66th birthday. Sp in her honor I am posting a picture of her last Prism Cake. She was a wonderful cook, but this wiggly dessert was always the Christmas Wild Card. Would it keep it's shape after unmolding or would it flop. The craziness that would erupt every Christmas Eve in her kitchen when she would start unmolding. Drum Roll Please... Now for those who do not know Prism Cake or Broken Glass Cake is a milk gelatin dessert, with vibran

National S'Mores Day
Today is National S'Mores Day. The earliest recipe for S'mores was found in a Girl Scouts publication in 1927, combining graham crackers, chocolate, and roasted marshmallows. In honor of National S'mores Day I posted a picture of my S'Mores cheesecake. It is a chocolate cheesecake with a graham cracker crust. And it is finished off with roasted marshmallows, chocolate sauce, and graham cracker crumbs. What is your favorite S'Mores creation? Please share. I want to kno

National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day
Today is National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day, to honor the classic sweet treat invented by Ruth Graves Wakefield August 4, 1938. So let's talk chocolate chip cookies. There are so many variations of chocolate chip cookies, and everyone has their most favorite. Some like them thin and crisp. Others soft and fluffy. Some people prefer them just slightly under cooked (Not Recommended per food safety standards). Personally, my favorite are soft and chewy, with a slight caram

Up Your At Home Baking Game
Here's a fun tip for you, to help raise your baking game to the next level. Try using brown butter in your baked items instead of regular butter. It adds a rich, nutty, almost toffee like flavor to your sweet treats. To achieve this just cook your butter on low heat until it turns a beautiful amber color. That's it. Nothing fancy, just cook it until it turns a light brown. But watch it carefully, it can go from perfect to burnt real fast. #JustLikeHatties

Share Your Favorite Recipe
I want to start making this a more interactive page, so I want you all to share your favorite sweets recipe. That recipe that you know by heart, the one that brings back so many memories you just smile the whole time you are making it. This is just one of mine. My grandmother's brownie recipe. They are so rich you would swear they are pure fudge. A 9x13 pan never lasts more than a couple of day. But don't take my word for it, try it your self. Now it's your turn. Share
