National Custard Day

In honor of National Custard Day, I give you the Charlette Russe. This was a special dessert that My Great-Grandma Hattie would make, and I took over making on Easter for the white family.

This is a cooked custard dessert with a fluffy layer that is formed by shipped egg whites. After it is set it is covered in whipped cream, and surrounded by lady fingers that are dipped in powdered sugar. The simple version is potted with an orange slice ring, the one you see here also has blueberries and raspberries with white chocolate chips in the center. As far as custard goes this is always top of my list.
